BIENVENUE TO EUROSEAS 2022
Organised by the French Association for Southeast Asian Studies (AFRASE), the EuroSEAS 2022 conference will take place at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and Campus Condorcet. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Paris and Aubervilliers. On this page, you will find all the useful information regarding our conference venue.
The École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences) is a graduate-only research institution that was founded in 1984. It hosts scholars from all over the world committed to the study of contemporary societies seen within broad cultural and historical contexts. It trains students from Master’s up to PhD levels in all disciplines of the social and human sciences, mainly through research seminars where they interact with faculty and guest scholars presenting their current research. With its high percentage of international students and faculty, supported by its international invited professors program, EHESS has created a unique global academic network. With over 1,000 research seminars registered every year, EHESS occupies a central position in French intellectual life. EHESS is a major host for area studies in France, thanks to its several dedicated research centres and projects. EHESS has been a member of Campus Condorcet since its creation, and has inaugurated its own building on campus in 2021. Beyond Paris and Aubervilliers, EHESS also has establishments in Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille.
Campus Condorcet Paris-Aubervilliers, also known as Cité des Humanités et des Sciences Sociales, is an academic campus whose twenty acres extend from Porte de la Chapelle in Paris to La Plaine Saint-Denis in Aubervilliers. Inaugurated in 2019, the Campus Condorcet is one of the largest campuses dedicated to the social sciences in all of Europe, bringing together a dozen higher education and academic research institutions who participated as founding partners. The project was motivated by the lack of major infrastructures specifically dedicated the social sciences and humanities in France. Campus Condorcet’s backbone is the Grand Équipement Documentaire, a large research library aggregating the holdings of over 50 libraries, documentary collections and archive services, with a catalogue of over a million references, of which 80% should eventually become directly available in the reading rooms.
Most of the EuroSEAS 2022 conference events will take place in the two of Campus Condorcet’s buildings, both located less than two minutes away from the Front Populaire Metro station:
- The “Centre de Colloques” building, situated on Place du Front Populaire, 93300 Aubervilliers
- The “Recherche Sud” building, located 5 cours des Humanités, 93300 Aubervilliers
